Our Lamaze Childbirth Classes will help you feel informed, prepared, and confident as your big day approaches. It is a 6-class series – 2 more than most hospital classes because we cover things in more depth, and there is more of a focus on pain management skills. And they’re fun!
In a relaxed atmosphere, you’ll learn about how labor begins, the process of labor, physical and emotional coping strategies, and you’ll get hands-on practice with comfort measures. You’ll learn how to write a birth plan, and you’ll be informed about medical options and procedures, including pain medications and cesarean birth. Unlike most other birth classes, a whole class will be devoted to how to survive life with a newborn, including recovery from birth, tips and tricks, and how to keep your relationship strong during those crucial first days and weeks.
Which class series should you choose? The ideal time to end your childbirth series is 2-3 weeks before your due date, unless you are expecting twins or have other reasons to believe that you might deliver early. Classes are small and personal, so there’s plenty of time for questions, discussion, and individual instruction time. A new series starts approximately every 8 weeks.
Classes are held on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at the Well, a great meeting center on Beechwood Boulevard in Squirrel Hill. The cost for the 6-class series is $230 per couple. Most insurance companies pay a portion of the fee.

New Mom’s Coffee
Being a new mother, even if it’s not your first time, can be exhilarating. And exhausting. For either feeling, and for all the others in between, it’s good to know you’re not alone. And even better to get together with other Moms for friendship and support.
Come (with your baby, of course) to these informal get-togethers to relax, have a cup of coffee, and share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with other new Moms. We keep things lively and comfortable, serving the coffee, brewing the conversation, and answering questions on everything from breastfeeding to new parent survival.These groups are FREE and open to all Moms with babies from Birth to 6 months. No tickets, no registrations, no worries. Come as you are, for as little or as long as you like, and enjoy some great coffee, conversation, and community. It’s all free, and it’s all for you

Healing From a Challenging Childbirth
We expect childbirth to be a demanding but satisfying send-off into parenthood, but for many women, it turns into something far less positive — a frightening, distressing event which can have long term physical and/or emotional consequences. These individual sessions are for mothers who have had such a birth.
There is no ‘litmus’ test for traumatic birth. What is important is whether or not it was distressing to YOU. If you are having upsetting memories of the birth, nightmares, find yourself avoiding anything that reminds you of the birth or having difficulties bonding with the baby, these sessions will gently and thoughtfully help you process your experience and begin healing. In the first weeks post-partum, the memories of my childbirth experience were very upsetting. I was referred to the challenging birth workshop by my midwife, and I am so glad I went. The workshop helped me to reframe my narrative of my child’s birth. As a result of the workshop, I became much more at peace with my memories of the childbirth process and felt more able to focus on the experience of becoming a mother.
